Storm Lilian Disrupts West Coast Events

Published: 2024-08-23

Storm Lilian has caused significant disruptions along Sweden's West Coast, leading to halted train services and the cancellation of the Sana Duri festival in Gothenburg.

The Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute (SMHI) issued a yellow warning for high water levels from Strömstad to Gothenburg, with risks of flooding affecting homes, roads, and infrastructure.

Train services between Gothenburg and Strömstad, as well as Herrljunga and Uddevalla/Gårdsjö, have been suspended.

The storm has also led to numerous weather-related incidents, including fallen trees and drifting boats, keeping emergency services busy.

In Norway, the storm has left thousands without power and caused significant damage, including a large crane being dislodged in Larvik.

The storm, which originated in the UK, is expected to subside by midnight, according to meteorologists.
