Sollefteå municipality has proposed a bold plan to save its hospital by contributing 23 million SEK annually for three years, covering half of the planned budget cuts.
The initiative also includes efforts to recruit staff.
Meanwhile, Ersta Diakoni, a non-profit healthcare provider, has expressed interest in taking over the hospital's operations.
Ersta has been in discussions with the region since 2017 and advocates for maintaining emergency services while ruling out the reopening of maternity wards due to safety concerns.
However, any potential takeover by Ersta would require a lengthy procurement process, with the earliest transition expected by 2027. The region has yet to comment on Ersta's proposal, as no formal offer has been submitted.
