A recent investigation by Ekot has revealed significant shortcomings in the maternity care at Karolinska University Hospital in Huddinge.
The report highlights failures in investigating serious incidents, including severe injuries and deaths of newborns, which were only addressed after patient complaints.
Eight cases were specifically mentioned in a report submitted to the hospital's chief physician, Ylva Pernov, who acknowledged the delays in reporting these incidents to the Health and Social Care Inspectorate (Ivo).
One case involved a doctor who is under investigation for gross negligence leading to a child's death but remains employed at the hospital.
Despite the serious nature of these findings, Pernov stated that there is no evidence of a systematic failure to report incidents.
The situation has sparked protests from colleagues following the dismissal of a maternity doctor earlier this year, raising concerns about the hospital's leadership and patient safety.
