A new proposal suggests that Sami villages should manage hunting and fishing in mountain areas, echoing the 2020 court ruling for Girjas Sami village.
Christina Allard, a law professor, believes the legal process will be quicker for other villages such as Sirges, Unna Tjerusj, and Baste than it was for Girjas.
However, hunting groups strongly oppose this shift, arguing that it skews facts and overlooks broader public interests.
Sportfishing groups and local businesses also express concerns about access and economic impacts.
The Renmark Committee will deliver its final report on the issue in May 2025.
