The contentious Kallak iron ore mine in Jokkmokk has received the go-ahead from the Supreme Administrative Court.
Despite years of opposition from environmental groups and local Sami communities, the court ruled that the mine would provide significant economic benefits.
The decision follows the government’s approval granted over two years ago.
However, the mine still requires an environmental permit to begin operations.
UNESCO has previously warned that the mine could threaten the World Heritage status of Laponia.
