Sweden has introduced new rules requiring the recycling of all textile waste starting January 2025. However, implementation varies across regions.
In Umeå, Nordmaling, and Vindeln, textile recycling is only available at select centers, raising concerns about accessibility.
Meanwhile, Sundsvall has made significant progress, with 27 out of 29 recycling stations accepting clothing and shoes for reuse, and three centers handling all types of textile waste.
Experts emphasize the need to reduce consumption, as Swedes buy 14 kilos of clothes annually but discard half.
Suggestions like placing recycling bins in clothing stores aim to make recycling more convenient for consumers.
