Millions worth of anesthesia machines and patient monitoring devices have mysteriously disappeared from Skåne University Hospital in Malmö, raising suspicions of an elaborate internal theft scheme potentially involving hospital staff.
The disappearance, which includes eleven anesthesia machines and eight monitoring devices, first came to light in 2020, leading to an initial police investigation that was later dropped.
However, with new information surfacing, the police reopened the case in January.
The situation is viewed with severity by both the hospital’s chief physician and the acting head of the medical technology department in Region Skåne, who are actively working to improve equipment handling procedures.
This incident underscores the critical need for stringent security measures in healthcare facilities.
