Lithuanian Theft Ring Jailed for GPS Heists

Published: 2024-08-12

A Lithuanian theft ring has been sentenced for stealing GPS equipment worth hundreds of thousands of kronor from farmers in Skaraborg, Sweden.

The district court sentenced two of the men to one year in prison and deportation for five years for aggravated theft.

They are also required to pay damages to several farmers.

This case highlights a growing issue in Swedish agriculture, where international theft rings have increasingly targeted expensive GPS systems.

Last year alone, over 200 thefts of such systems were reported, marking a significant rise from previous years.

Farmers like Robert Forsberg, who now sleeps with his equipment under his bed, express discomfort and concern over these invasions.

The thefts not only cause financial loss but also disrupt the daily operations of affected farms.
