The Ski-SM in Kalix is grappling with unseasonably warm weather and snow shortages, forcing organizers to redesign the race tracks.
With temperatures reaching 10°C, melting snow has created waterlogged conditions, particularly at the finish line.
To address this, crews have been pumping water and bringing in truckloads of snow to prepare for Thursday’s 10-kilometer race.
The new course is tougher, featuring steeper climbs, including a stretch up a slalom hill, making it 6% more challenging than the World Championship track in Trondheim.
Athletes like Eric Rosjö and Sofia Henriksson acknowledge the difficulty but remain optimistic.
Despite the challenges, organizers are confident in delivering a fair and exciting competition.
