High Risk of Grass Fires in Eastern Sweden

Published: 2024-04-10

Parts of Sweden are currently facing a high risk of grass fires, particularly in the eastern regions of Götaland, Svealand, and southern Norrland, as well as northern Gotland.

This condition is attributed to the dry remnants of last year's grass which can easily catch fire, especially under the current windy conditions.

The Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute (SMHI) has issued warnings, urging the public to exercise caution with outdoor fires.

However, the risk is expected to diminish in the evening as rain showers are forecasted for southern Norrland and Svealand, leading to wetter ground conditions.

According to SMHI meteorologist Lisa Frost, a shift towards more unstable weather with passing showers will further reduce the fire risk.
