As Eid al-Fitr, marking the end of Ramadan, approaches, Swedish retailers, including Ica, are bracing for a significant uptick in sales, with expectations to hit around 1.5 billion SEK in turnover.
Key items flying off the shelves include dates, giant watermelons dubbed as "super popular," and baklava, along with a specially created Eid cake by one retailer in Kalmar to cater to the festive demand.
This surge in sales is part of a broader trend where holiday seasons witness a dramatic increase in specific product categories, notably fruits, vegetables, and sweets, despite the recent overall upward trend in food prices.
In response, some retailers have even slashed prices on fruits and vegetables to accommodate the festive rush and stay aligned with the Riksbank's pricing goals, providing some relief to consumers after months of price hikes.
