Denmark Tightens Border Amid Swedish Crime Wave

Published: 2024-08-11

Denmark has intensified border controls with Sweden following a series of violent incidents involving young Swedes in Denmark.

The Danish Justice Minister, Peter Hummelgaard, announced the measures in response to recent crimes, including attempted murder and bombings, allegedly involving Swedish nationals.

These controls, which began on Friday, aim to curb the recruitment of young Swedes for criminal activities in Denmark, a trend highlighted by Danish crime reporter Astrid Søndberg.

The new measures include increased physical checks on trains crossing the Øresund Bridge and enhanced surveillance.

Despite these changes, train services have not yet experienced significant delays, according to Skånetrafiken's operational leader, Karl Buhre.

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen emphasized the seriousness of the situation, stating that the violence must be stopped to maintain public safety.
