Hamid Zafar, once a celebrated figure in Swedish education, is making a return to school leadership despite a past controversy.
Known as "Rektor Hamid," Zafar was forced to resign from his roles after it was revealed in 2020 that he had made derogatory comments about Jews and homosexuals under anonymous online accounts.
Despite this, he has been appointed as the principal of Nordic International School in Trollhättan.
Zafar, who was named "Swede of the Year" in 2018, expressed gratitude for the new opportunity, acknowledging his past mistakes and emphasizing his commitment to positive change.
His appointment has sparked discussions about redemption and accountability in public roles.
