Several municipalities in Sweden are facing significant delays in construction projects and increased processing times due to the shutdown of digital services by Lantmäteriet, the Swedish mapping authority.
This decision was made after sensitive defense information was found accessible online.
As a result, local governments now have to manually request information that previously took minutes to obtain, leading to wait times of up to two months.
Communities like Haninge and Strängnäs have reported that these delays could deter businesses from establishing themselves in the area.
Lantmäteriet is aware of the issues and plans to hire additional staff to expedite the processing of requests, but there is currently no timeline for when the digital services will resume.
