Allegations of Mistreatment at Top Swedish Beauty School

Published: 2024-04-10

A series of testimonies from former students and teachers have brought to light a troubling situation at Gilda Skolan, one of Sweden's largest private beauty therapy schools.

These witnesses describe a culture of public humiliation and collective punishment, with allegations including being demeaned for not adhering to the school’s appearance rules and being forced to watch or participate in cleaning as a form of reprimand.

Despite the severity of these claims, there is no regulatory body overseeing the school, leaving students without an official channel for complaints.

Even after a group of students reported their experiences to the Swedish Beauty Therapists' National Organization (SHR), which issues professional certificates, the matter was not pursued further due to undocumented reasons.

The school charges 95,000 SEK for a year-long course, which includes six months of unpaid internship, raising questions about the educational value and ethical practices of such private institutions.
