A magnitude 2.9 earthquake occurred south of Skellefteå, Sweden, on Saturday at 10:51 AM, felt as far away as Umeå.
According to Björn Lund, a seismologist at Uppsala University, such earthquakes are relatively strong for Swedish conditions, occurring about once a year.
Residents in the vicinity reported swaying lamps and rattling in cabinets, describing the sensation as unsettling.
The quake, centered approximately 18 kilometers southwest of Bureå, was noticeable even in homes, with some locals mistaking it for heavy machinery passing by.
Seismologists note that the region's crustal composition may allow quake waves to travel extensively, explaining the wide area over which the quake was felt.
