In a troubling revelation, at least five women in Blekinge, Sweden, have had their wombs removed on questionable grounds by the same senior doctor.
The operations, which have sparked significant concern, were performed despite the absence of medical necessity, leading to severe emotional distress for the affected women.
One woman, who had hoped to have children, suffered from PTSD and depression following the unnecessary surgery.
The doctor involved has since resigned and is prohibited from performing such surgeries independently.
This incident is part of a broader issue, as similar cases have been reported in other parts of Sweden, prompting a national review of medical practices related to hysterectomies.
The hospital in Blekinge has since improved its safety protocols, emphasizing teamwork and open communication among medical staff to prevent future occurrences.
