The Swedish Foreign Ministry is investigating reports that a third Swedish citizen has been sentenced to death in Iraq for drug-related crimes, though the information is not yet confirmed.
Two other Swedish nationals have already been sentenced to death for the murder of a high-ranking criminal figure in Baghdad earlier this year.
The ministry is working urgently to prevent any executions and maintains contact with local authorities and the families involved.
They strongly oppose the death penalty under all circumstances.
The Swedish Embassy in Baghdad is assisting with the case remotely from Stockholm.
