Tensions Rise in Sweden Over Potential Security Threats

Published: 2024-01-09

The Swedish government has issued stern warnings about the security situation, with ministers now discussing the possibility of a war breaking out in the country.

Former Foreign Minister, Margot Wallström, has criticized the government's actions, arguing that there's lack of information about the threats facing the country.

The discussions are taking place at the People and Defense conference in Sälen, a gathering of top politicians, the cream of Sweden's defense force, and defense and security policy specialists.

Questions have been raised about why these statements are being made now, and whether the threat to Sweden has increased recently.

Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson highlighted citizenship in his speech at the conference, but Wallström believes that the will to defend cannot simply come from holding a Swedish passport.
