The military threat against Sweden has escalated, with high-ranking officials warning of the possibility of war and urging all Swedish citizens to prepare.

This warning was issued by both the commander-in-chief, Micael Bydén, and the Minister for Civil Defence, Carl-Oscar Bohlin.

The latter expressed concern over the slow upgrade of civil defence and called for swifter progress.

The announcements stirred significant attention and concern among Swedes.

The heightened rhetoric comes in the wake of Russia's ongoing war in Ukraine, which poses an increased risk to Sweden due to its geographical location by the Baltic Sea.

Swedish decision makers fear that if Russia wins the war against Ukraine, the appetite for invading other neighbouring countries could increase, thereby increasing the risk of Sweden being drawn into a war.
