Over half of the age-segmented groups in Swedish preschools exceed the recommended size, with an average group containing 15.3 children, according to the Swedish National Agency for Education.
The teachers' union, Sveriges Lärare, is demanding legislation to cap the size of preschool groups, highlighting that 54% of these groups surpass guidelines.
The current recommendations suggest a maximum of 12 children for the youngest age group (1-3 years) and 15 for older children.
Union President Åsa Fahlén stated that development is too slow and urged political parties to act on their promises for regulation.
