Swedish PM Accused of Backtracking on Healthcare Promise

Published: 2024-02-22

In a recent shift, Socialdemokraternas party leader, Magdalena Andersson, accuses Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson of backpedaling on his healthcare promise, sparking uncertainty among patients and healthcare workers.

Andersson references Kristersson's interview with Corren, highlighting his inability to guarantee no layoffs in healthcare despite earlier assurances.

This comes after Kristersson, in a TV4 interview, assured that the government, alongside Sverigedemokraterna, would draft a budget preventing healthcare worker layoffs.

Andersson criticizes Kristersson for creating confusion and not being trustworthy.

Kristersson has pledged to provide additional support to regions "relatively soon, at the latest in the budget," stressing the government's effort to avoid general cutbacks of essential medical personnel.
