Sweden is considering a major overhaul of its school grading system.
A new proposal suggests replacing the current A-F scale with a 1-10 grading system, aiming to better reflect students' knowledge and reduce grade inflation.
Unlike the current system, the new scale would not have a strict fail mark, potentially increasing eligibility for high school.
Grades would range from "less than acceptable knowledge" at level 1 to "excellent knowledge" at level 10. Additionally, national final exams are proposed for ninth grade, which would account for 30% of a student's merit score for high school applications.
These exams would be centrally graded and conducted digitally in five core subjects.
Education Minister Lotta Edholm emphasized the need for new curricula to address fundamental skills like reading and writing, alongside reforms to improve teacher workloads and student health services.
The government aims to create a fairer and more effective education system.
