Sweden Prepares for Defense Overhaul

Sweden is ramping up its defense strategy amid growing concerns over Russia's actions in Ukraine.

Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson warned that if Russia perceives its invasion as successful, Europe could face a prolonged Cold War.

He emphasized the need for a robust European response to support Ukraine and prevent further aggression.

Following a meeting with party leaders, Kristersson announced plans for a new defense decision, likely influenced by NATO's upcoming summit in June.

The EU has also committed €800 billion to bolster defense across member states.

While there is broad political unity in Sweden on strengthening defense, questions remain about funding and its impact on welfare programs.

Kristersson stressed that the outcome of the Ukraine war will shape Europe's future for generations.
