A recent study from Chalmers University has revealed that privately owned electric scooters carry the highest risk of accidents compared to other modes of transportation, including rental e-scooters and electric bicycles.
The research, led by Professor Marco Dozza of vehicle safety, attributes these risks to inferior braking performance and the lack of differentiation in vehicle classification based on performance.
Rental e-scooters, which often feature larger wheels and superior suspension and braking systems, were found to be safer.
Dozza emphasizes the importance of recognizing the distinctions between different types of e-scooters to improve safety standards.
He also advises practicing riding an e-scooter before venturing into traffic to reduce the risk of accidents.
