The number of e-scooter accidents in Sweden surged by 30% in 2024, with 4,599 injuries and five fatalities reported.
Nearly half of these accidents involved young people under 25, with men accounting for 66% of the cases.
Single-vehicle crashes were the most common, but collisions with pedestrians and cyclists saw the sharpest rise, increasing by 59% and 41% respectively.
Many incidents occurred at night, often involving alcohol.
Meanwhile, accidents involving A-tractors, another popular vehicle among youth, remained steady, thanks in part to new safety regulations introduced in late 2023. Experts warn that the growing use of privately owned e-scooters may be contributing to the alarming trend.
