A couple in Halland has been sentenced to prison for repeatedly locking their children in a basement.

The father received a five-year sentence, while the mother was sentenced to four years for failing to protect the children.

The incidents came to light after the children spoke to social services.

The court found the children's stories credible and awarded them damages ranging from 55,000 to 625,000 kronor each.

The prosecutor is considering an appeal for a harsher sentence.
