New Year's Eve fireworks are a dazzling tradition, but they come with risks and challenges.
Each year, around 100 people in Sweden suffer serious injuries from fireworks, prompting stricter regulations over time.
This year, 66% of Swedish municipalities have introduced local rules to limit private fireworks use, a significant rise from 2021. These measures aim to reduce accidents and ease the stress on pets, as about one-third of dogs are scared of loud noises.
For 35,000 dogs, the fear is so severe that they require sedatives, with sales of these medications spiking tenfold during the holiday.
The new restrictions reflect growing awareness of safety and animal welfare during celebrations.
