A new type of tick carrying the potential to spread Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever virus has been discovered in Sweden.
Known as the ornate sheep tick (Dermacentor marginatus), the species is typically found in southern Europe but was identified last year in Stockholm.
Despite its capacity to host various diseases, experts like Anton de Jong from the Swedish National Veterinary Institute (SVA) advise against panic, recommending vigilance instead.
The ticks identified had no traces of the virus, emphasizing the importance of prompt removal and analysis if found.
