Diseased Mosquitoes Threaten Sweden

Published: 2024-06-24

Experts warn that Asian mosquito species carrying harmful diseases like dengue and West Nile fever are nearing Sweden.

In response, scientists from the National Veterinary Institute have set up mosquito traps across Skåne to identify high-risk areas.

Rising temperatures and increased humidity due to climate change are facilitating the northward spread of these tropical diseases, which have already been reported in parts of Europe.

While no cases have been found in Sweden yet, healthcare services are on high alert.

The public is advised to stay informed and take precautions to protect against mosquito bites.
