Kiruna Municipality has reversed its stance on the location of the new hospital in Kiruna, now agreeing to the regional government's demand to develop a detailed plan for a hospital on the old mining site in Tuolluvaara.
This marks a departure from their previous decision to reject this location.
The change comes after intensive and constructive discussions between the municipality and the regional government.
This decision was motivated by the discovery that the current hospital building is deteriorating due to mining activities.
The move to expedite the hospital's relocation underscores the urgent need to address the impacts of mining on local infrastructure.
