The Jewish Central Council in Sweden has decided to uphold its ban on the Left Party from participating in its commemorative events, despite a constructive meeting between the two parties.
The ban was initially imposed due to concerns over antisemitic remarks and support for terrorist organizations by some Left Party members.
During the meeting, both sides engaged in a dialogue to clarify misunderstandings and discuss the boundary between legitimate criticism of Israel and antisemitism.
Left Party leader Nooshi Dadgostar acknowledged the need for quicker action against members crossing this line and emphasized the party's stance against antisemitism and support for a two-state solution.
However, the Jewish Central Council, led by Aron Verständig, stated that structural changes within the party are necessary before reconsidering the ban.
The council will continue discussions internally, but for now, the Left Party remains excluded from upcoming memorial events.
