Sweden has updated its list of invasive species that pose a significant threat to biodiversity.
Among the newly classified high-risk species are the North American fungus Ribbsopp and the garden favorite Syrenbuddleja, also known as the Butterfly Bush.
These species spread rapidly and can outcompete native plants and fungi, endangering local ecosystems.
Experts from the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency urge caution, advising mushroom foragers to clean their footwear to prevent the spread of Ribbsopp spores.
Similarly, gardeners are encouraged to reconsider planting Syrenbuddleja to protect native biodiversity.
The new classifications aim to raise awareness and promote actions to safeguard Sweden’s natural habitats.
