Doctors Under Investigation for Self-Billing

Published: 2024-10-17

In a startling revelation, 42 doctors in Sweden's Region Stockholm and Västra Götalandsregionen have been found billing for medical consultations with themselves as patients.

This unusual practice has prompted investigations by the respective regions, following inquiries by Dagens Nyheter.

Health Minister Acko Ankarberg Johansson expressed concern, labeling the situation as potentially fraudulent and calling for thorough investigations.

The Swedish Private Doctors' Association, surprised by these findings, described the actions as deceitful if proven true.

The association's chairman, Thomas Anderson, emphasized the need for due process before passing judgment.

This incident echoes similar cases in Copenhagen earlier this year, raising questions about oversight in medical billing practices.
