In a surprising turn of events, a diplomatic vehicle belonging to the Embassy of Ethiopia in Stockholm was found abandoned on the tram tracks in central Stockholm.
The incident occurred early in the morning on March 3, when the vehicle mistakenly drove onto the tracks between Alviks strand and Stora Essingen, covering a distance of two kilometers before stopping.
Despite clear signage warning against entering the tramway area, the driver, claiming confusion due to inadequate signage at a crossing used by both cars and trams, proceeded along the tracks.
The Ethiopian Embassy has since apologized for the accident and the inconvenience caused, launching an internal investigation to ascertain how the mishap occurred.
Swedish police initiated an investigation for reckless driving but eventually dropped the case due to the driver's diplomatic immunity.
