Dag Hartelius, a seasoned diplomat, has been appointed as the new Cabinet Secretary at the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
This position, second only to the Foreign Minister, is crucial in shaping Sweden's foreign policy.
Hartelius, 68, brings a wealth of experience, having served as an ambassador in several countries, including Russia and Germany, and as Director-General of the National Defence Radio Establishment.
His appointment follows the departure of Jan Knutsson, who has taken a new role at NATO in Brussels.
The announcement coincides with the opening of the parliamentary session, where the new government lineup is expected to be revealed.
