A man in his mid-40s has sustained life-threatening injuries following a collision involving two passenger cars and a truck on Arkösundsvägen, east of Norrköping.

The incident occurred shortly before 7 PM on Monday evening, leading to a temporary closure of the road for emergency and clearance operations.

According to the police, the sequence of events began with a car colliding with another passenger vehicle, which was then struck by a truck.

The impact caused the truck to tip over and land on its side off the road.

The injured man was promptly attended to by healthcare professionals and is currently in a critical condition at the University Hospital in Linköping.

The Region of Östergötland confirmed the severity of his injuries.

In response to the accident, police have launched a preliminary investigation for traffic negligence, technically examining the scene and seizing both a passenger car and the truck involved.

The accident has raised concerns over potential diesel leakage from the truck's tanks, although initial risks were managed.

Roadway 209 was blocked in both directions indefinitely as part of the initial emergency response.
