A dentist in Gothenburg and Gislaved has lost his license after being found guilty of extracting teeth without valid reasons.
Over a decade, authorities were aware of his practices, yet he continued to operate until recently.
The dentist, who treated many patients, often from foreign backgrounds, extracted over a thousand teeth between 2015 and 2018. One patient had 20 teeth removed in a single session.
Despite repeated warnings from the Health and Social Care Inspectorate (Ivo) and financial penalties from the Swedish Social Insurance Agency, the dentist maintained his innocence, claiming dissatisfaction from a few patients doesn't reflect his overall competence.
The case highlights the need for more efficient regulatory processes to prevent such prolonged malpractice.
