Unprecedented Flooding Strikes Hörby, Skåne

Published: 2024-01-24

Severe flooding threatens Hörby, Skåne, amidst the worst inundation in 50 years, caused by snowmelt in Hörbyån.

Residents are building barriers to mitigate the encroaching floods while sewer systems have been shut down.

Cars are trapped in the floodwaters, and residents are advised to avoid the affected regions due to the risk of landslides.

The Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute (SMHI) has issued an orange warning for the area, predicting that the flood could develop into the worst in 50 years.

The situation is also tense in most of Skåne, southern Halland, and western Kronoberg.
