Ukraine Conflict Stalemate Continues: No Decisive Victory Expected in 2024

Published: 2024-01-09

As the conflict in Ukraine enters its third year, neither side appears to have the resources for a decisive victory in 2024, according to military analysts.

Russia's attacks on Ukrainian cities continue, with the most significant bombings in Kyiv since the invasion began.

Russia's hope for a quick victory lies in destroying critical civilian infrastructure in Ukraine, making large cities uninhabitable.

Despite the escalation of attacks, the frontlines have remained largely static since November 2022, signaling the conflict's industrial nature.

Both Russia and Ukraine struggle to build offensive capabilities to penetrate each other's defenses.

In response to the ongoing crisis, Sweden has provided substantial support to Ukraine, contributing around 30 billion SEK, making it one of the top ten countries providing aid to Ukraine.

Meanwhile, a recent Demoskop survey revealed that eight out of ten Swedes would like to maintain or increase support to Ukraine, despite only 15% being in favor of sending troops.

The future of the conflict largely depends on the support Ukraine receives from the West and the backing Russia gets from its allies.
