Turkey's Parliament Reconvenes; Sweden's NATO Application Pending

After a New Year hiatus, Turkey's parliament has reopened but a date for voting on Sweden's NATO application has not been set.

The application is on a long list of issues due to be decided in the coming weeks.

The Swedish NATO application has not been prioritized, which would have meant the issue being dealt with swiftly.

As per reports, the parliament leaders will meet on Friday and Monday to decide the agenda for the upcoming weeks.

The first opportunity for a date for the Swedish NATO application will be decided then.

However, the parliament may also wait, especially as the decision is linked with Turkey's desire to buy F-16 planes from the U.

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg has said that he welcomes the Turkish National Assembly's vote to ratify Sweden's membership in NATO, stating that he expects Hungary to complete its national ratification as soon as possible.

He added that Sweden's membership will make NATO stronger and us all safer.
