The Foreign Affairs Committee of Turkey's parliament has approved Sweden's NATO application, marking a significant step towards Swedish NATO membership.

However, it is not yet a breakthrough, as there is still Turkish opposition.

The application now moves forward to the parliament, where the Speaker will decide a date for a potential vote.

While the Foreign Minister of Sweden, Tobias Billström, welcomed the decision, he emphasized that the next step is a parliamentary vote.

The decision came after prolonged discussion in the Turkish Foreign Affairs Committee.

However, it remains uncertain when the application will be voted on in the Turkish parliament.

Turkey and Hungary are the only NATO countries that have not yet approved Sweden's application.
