TT-Line, a German shipping company, is contesting a 1.2 million kronor fine imposed by the Swedish Coast Guard following an oil spill incident involving their passenger ferry, Marco Polo.
In October 2023, the ferry ran aground in Pukaviksbukten, near Karlshamn, resulting in the spillage of approximately 55 tons of oil.
This environmental disaster necessitated a cleanup operation along a 2.5-mile stretch of coastline.
TT-Line argues that they have taken all necessary measures to mitigate the spill's impact and attributes the grounding to human navigational error.
The company has appealed the fine to the Maritime Court, maintaining that they should not be held financially responsible for the incident.
