The Swedish Prosecution Authority has decided to press charges against waste management company, Think Pink, with the former CEO Bella Nilsson being charged with severe environmental crimes.
The case, which involves illegal waste dump sites and large fires spreading harmful toxins, has been deemed the largest environmental crime in Sweden.
The scandal implicates 21 different sites in Central Sweden.
In total, 11 people have been charged; five for severe crimes, one for aiding and abetting, and five for normal degree environmental crimes.
If found guilty, severe environmental crime can lead to a prison sentence ranging from six months to six years.
