After a recent investigation by Kalla fakta revealed that the Sweden Democrats (SD) were using taxpayer money to finance disinformation campaigns, the response from the Tidö government has been underwhelming.

The Liberals have only managed to produce a code of conduct, while Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson has merely suggested that SD leader Jimmie Åkesson should apologize.

Columnist Elina Pahnke argues that the Tidö government benefits from having the more extreme SD to make their own conservative policies appear moderate by comparison.

This dynamic allows the government to push forward controversial measures, such as visitation zones and secret coercive means, without facing significant backlash.

Pahnke emphasizes that even so-called moderate racism is still racism.
