Swedish astronaut Marcus Wandt has successfully embarked on a journey to the International Space Station (ISS) aboard the Falcon 9 rocket.
This makes Wandt the third Swede to travel to space.
The journey commenced late Thursday night with Wandt and three other astronauts departing Earth.
The SpaceX Dragon 2 capsule will transport them to the ISS, where they will stay for two weeks.
Wandt will be participating in a research project initiated by the Royal Institute of Technology, studying the effects of confined spaces on human health over extended periods.
The group is expected to arrive at the ISS approximately 36 hours post-launch, according to the European Space Agency.
Wandt follows in the footsteps of fellow Swedes Christer Fuglesang and Jessica Meir, the latter of whom also holds American citizenship and represents the U.
S. as an astronaut.
