In a controversial statement on social media, Richard Jomshof, chairman of the Swedish Parliament's Justice Committee and a member of the Sweden Democrats (SD), suggested that Daniel Riazat, a Left Party (V) lawmaker and refugee from Iran, should leave Sweden.
The comment has sparked criticism for its insensitivity towards the Iranian diaspora and for Jomshof's apparent lack of concern for political discourse standards.
Despite attempts to question him, Jomshof has avoided providing explanations and mainstream political parties have largely failed to condemn his remarks.
This incident has raised concerns about the tolerance of such rhetoric within the SD party and the broader political landscape in Sweden.
