Swedish Climate Action Plan Sparks Controversy and Criticism

Published: 2023-12-24

The Swedish government's climate action plan, presented in collaboration with the Sweden Democrats, has sparked controversy and criticism.

The plan, which outlines how the country aims to achieve long-term climate goals, omits any measures for the railway system and focuses on electric aviation and shipping.

The government has conceded that Sweden's climate emissions will increase during 2024 and 2025, yet no concrete measures have been proposed to address this issue.

Opposition parties, including the Centre Party, the Left Party and the Green Party, have expressed mistrust for Climate and Environment Minister Romina Pourmokhtari and have called for her resignation.

Despite the criticism, Pourmokhtari insists that the plan will put Sweden on the right path.
