Swedish astronaut Marcus Wandt's journey to the International Space Station (ISS) has been prolonged due to unfavorable weather conditions near the coast of Florida, delaying his and the Ax-3 mission crew's return trip to Earth.
SpaceX, responsible for the mission, has decided that the earliest possible return could be on Monday, February 5th, because calm seas and clear visibility are essential for the safe retrieval of the crew.
Wandt, who is the third Swede to travel to space, had launched aboard the Falcon 9 rocket on January 19th and was scheduled to return over the weekend.
His mission included conducting over 30 experiments in microgravity, ranging from the effects of weightlessness on stem cells to international research.
Despite the delay, officials assure there is no risk to the astronauts, as the ISS is well-equipped with supplies and necessities.
If further delays occur, the crew might resume some research activities or perform maintenance on the station, which has been orbiting Earth for over 23 years.
