Swedish and Finnish Leaders Unite Against Russian Threats

Published: 2024-04-23

In a significant move toward tightening security around the EU's borders, Magdalena Andersson, leader of the Swedish Social Democrats, and Antti Lindtman, head of the Finnish Social Democrats, convened at the Finnish-Russian border to demand stronger actions against Russia's military threats.

The leaders called for an enhancement of the EU's hybrid defense capabilities to counter various forms of hybrid threats from Russia, alongside proposing additional EU sanctions aimed at weakening Russia's war chest.

Their joint press conference emphasized the strategic goal of the Russian regime to divide the democratic West, and highlighted the necessity for a united and robust Europe to face these challenges.

The proposals include improving EU's intelligence against hybrid threats, creating a comprehensive toolkit for cybersecurity, migration, and information influence, and ensuring Russia has no influence over democratic processes.

The call to action underscores a pivotal moment for EU solidarity and resilience against external threats.
